Treat Dry Skin through Natural Cosmetics

There is an abundance of cosmetic products, particularly skin care products in the market. Most of them are manufactured using several harmful chemicals. Our skin is a natural absorbent and it absorbs minute amounts of these chemicals. They get accumulated across our body. The trace amounts may not be harmful, but when the accumulated quantity crosses a threshold figure, they become harmful. The side effects may not be visible or noticeable to us and cannot be traced back to a specific cosmetic use but the medical profession is worried about the long-term effect.

To use or not to use?

Can we reduce the side effects given the prominence and the widespread use of cosmetics? Cosmetics are not only used to improve the overall appearance, they are used to counter the ill-effects of the strenuous lifestyle, pollution as well as the normal wear and tear associated with the passage of time. Natural cosmetics provide an easy way out provided that the composition and ingredients are natural and do not react with each other. Natural or organic cosmetics use naturally available ingredients. Many companies promote the products as natural cosmetics or organic cosmetics but add chemicals to the composition. It is advisable to read the contents before buying. The second option is to purchase a well-known brand.

Dry Skin and Natural Cosmetics:

Dry skin can be caused by a variety of reasons. Skin tends to lose moisture during hot climate. This is the body’s natural method to maintain the body temperature. However, during dry and cold climate, it cannot absorb the required moisture from the air. The lower humidity of the air ensures that the skin loses moisture. This could be temporary in nature, however, if the skin remains dry continuously, the reason could be the loss of sebum. Sebum is the skin’s natural oil and it protects the skin. Vitamin deficiencies, use of harsh soaps, as well as excessive and daily exposure to the sun, can also lead to dry skin. Dry skin can be treated by various moisturisers available in the market. Several skin care products, particularly moisturisers, fall in the natural cosmetics range. Petroleum jelly was widely used as a moisturiser till its carcinogenic side effects were discovered. Mineral oils can also be used to replenish the skin’s oil. These can be substituted with readily available vegetable oils but they tend to leave the skin oily. Oily skin attracts dust and causes complications. Many people are also not comfortable with the greasy feel and look. However, there are other simpler options available and these may be readily available in your kitchen itself.

Organic skin care

Extra virgin olive oil acts as a very good cleanser as well as moisturiser. It is totally natural and does not have any side effects. In fact, it is used to moisturise small babies in many countries. Honey, another popular option, has been used through the ages. Its use can be traced back hundreds of years. Just rub some honey on the body, cover yourself up for 10 to 15 minutes before taking a bath. Treating dry lips with honey is also very easy, just rub some honey on the lips before sleeping. Leave it overnight and wash in the morning. The sweet taste will also give you a sound sleep.

Organic or natural cosmetics are getting popular on account of the ease and safety of use.
